How did we end up here? We've lived in Northern Illinois for 29 years. Way too long for this vegetarian! Thankfully, we're only 90 miles from Madison,WI.

My Lagoon

Also known as the big black hole, the money pit, or the reflecting pond. As much as my husband says he LOVES this "swimming pool" after 8 years of cleaning and endless maintenance time and costs I can't find anything to LOVE about this darned thing.

May 1st is this Saturday which means it's time to start preparing for what I hope is a sunny and hot summer season filled with endless days by the crystal clear swimming hole.

(As hard as I try to stay positive about the big hole in the ground, sometimes I can't help but daydream what a fantastic garden plot this space would be if I could get a few truckloads of dirt to fill in this pit.)

Radical Homemaker

I rarely purchase a book site unseen but last week I ordered a book that is exactly what I needed. It's called Radical Homemakers:Reclaiming Domesticity from a Consumer Culture.

I skipped the first half of the book, the "why", and went to the second half of the book, the "how". She interviewed 20 individuals and families that are living a home-centered, more sustainable life. They are young and old, men and women, single and married, with and without children. All these people "do not see their homes as a refuge from the world. Rather, each home was the center for social change, the starting point from which a better life would ripple out for everyone."

"If you ever considered quitting a job to plant tomatoes, read to a child, pursue creative work, can green beans and heal the planet, this is your book."

Almost there

We are on week 34 of 36 for our school year. We are very ready for the end of the semester!
Last week my youngest son had the finale concert for his Children's Choir. The kids sounded great and looked so professional.

The weather was perfect last week for our field trip to learn archery. We had a blast learning a new skill and hanging out with friends.

Ready or Not

Life seems to be on fast forward lately. Ready or not here it comes whether I'm ready for it or not. Another home schooled Mom recently tried to help me out by telling me to focus on what is going good instead of what is most challenging. We've had an extremely challenging past couple of months. But I'm going to try to stay focused on what is going really well and hope that in the future things will continue to look up.
Today eldest son had his "finale" in his mock trail class. He nailed his opening statement and questioned the witnesses like a pro. My Jr. defense attorney did an outstanding job with his team today. I'm a proud Mom!
